Introductions

I’m Zoë, new crime author.  The posts you’ll see here will likely be focused on the writing, reading, and viewing of things, especially things related to crime and the supernatural.

Zoë Z. Dean is a pen name–I’m really Lauren James, which is much less Google-able.  I live in Kentucky, and apparently like the feeling of having a secret identity.

My story “Getaway Girl” was published in Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine and recently won the Robert L. Fish Memorial Award, given out at the Edgars (where I geeked out in a hopefully charming fashion and met a number of exceptionally nice and brilliant people). I talked about the story, Winter’s Bone, Southern Gothic, and the appeal of crime fiction at The Solute.

I’m now up in podcast form, graciously sponsored by EQMM, reading “Getaway Girl.”
